The aircraft had just departed on a cloud seeding mission for the Desert Research Institute. from the Reno Journal Gazette: Richard R. Ahlberg, 55, died April 17, 200 of injuries sustained in an airplane crash at Reno-Stead Airport. A Reno native, he was born December 17, 1944 and had lived in Reno most of his life. Ahlberg was a Continental and Singapore Airlines pilot. He was a retired Army major, having served as a warrant officer during the Vietnam War, piloting the Cobra. A 1962 graduate of Sparks High School, Ahlberg graduated from Sacramento City College, Sacramento, Calif., and received a bachelor's degree from Regency College, New York. His father, George, died in 1993. Surviving are his wife, Vassilka, and mother Ruth Ahlberg, both of Reno; and brothers George W. of Fallon, Nev., and Ted M. of San Antonio, Texas. An inurement service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, June 30 at Sierra Memorial Gardens. (U.S. 395 north at Lemmon Valley Exit).
