More detail on this person: Allan DeLesdernier Williams, II. 'You have never lived until you have almost died. For those who have fought for it, life has a special flavor that the protected will never know.' United States Special Operations Associations. Courageous soldier, skilled aviator, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Allan Williams died peacefully at the age of 61 on October 31, 2003, at his home in Luling, Texas. The son of Allan D. and Gladys Williams, Allan was born, October 23, 1942 in Oklahoma City. Allan graduated from Northwest Classen High School and attended the University of Central Oklahoma. He joined the U.S. Army and began his tour of duty with the United States European Command as an Operations Specialist, 1st Aviation Detachment, Eyreux, France. Upon his return from Europe, Allan completed training at the U.S. Army Aviation School at Fort Rucker, Alabama, where he attained the rank of Warrant Officer. He served with great distinction in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot, an intelligence officer and was a part of Special Operations. After returning from Vietnam, Allan was a flight instructor at Fort Wolters, in Fort Wolters, Texas. After leaving the Army, his commitment and love of flying led him to a 25 year career with Air Logistics, Lafayette, Louisiana. Allan was a soldier and a patriot, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Aviation Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Five Battle Starts, 2 O/S Bars, Air Medal with 26 Oak Leaf clusters and was a member of the United States Special Operations Association and the 119th Assault Helicopter Company. On July 29, 1999, Allan married Joyce Towery in Fredericksburg, Texas. Allan is survived by his wife, Joyce of the home, his sister, Cindy Williams Hollingsworth, Oklahoma City, two daughters, Allison Dunn and her husband, Mike and Wendy Robinson and her husband Rob, Leander, Texas and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Marcus Valentine. Cid Burks, Marc Yates, Jim Deaton, Brian Rockwell, Dwight Cater and Carl Brown, Allan's fellow comrades, pilots, patriots and friends from Air Logistics honored him as pall bearers at his funeral service which was held on November 2, 2003 in Luling, Texas. We dedicate these words to Allan, 'To the quiet professionals who go forth to liberate the oppressed, we remember and honor this soldier with gratitude and respect and admiration. Thank you for protecting us. You fought the good fight, finished the course and kept the faith. We salute you.'
