Accident Summary:
Aircraft 64-14047 and UH-1B 65-09486 were involved in a mid-air collision. Aircraft 047 took off in a northwest heading, aircraft 486 had taken off in a westerly heading and made a right turn to a nowthwest heading. This put the aircraft on a collison course which resulted in a mid-air collison. Both aircraft crashed and burned
War Story:
This is the record for the second helicopter involved in a mid-air over Tuy Hoa North with a Pelican Huey from the 161st Avn. By a process of elimination and looking at the Army helicopter loss records, the VHPA guesses that the four individuals just listed where on the second Huey (not a LOH as some sources suggest). Since MAJ Nave was CO of C/1/9th Cav at the time it seems likely that he was flying the "command ship" that some sources mention. The VHPA is very interested in learning additional information about this event
This record was last updated on 05/25/1998
Additional information is available on CD-ROM.
